Elder / Pastor / Overseer

Elders at Pleasant Valley are men, who, having been observed, approached, and interviewed by an elder search team, are then brought before the congregation. The church members prayerfully consider the candidate seeking to recognize if this is a man God has set aside for the position of elder. A vote is cast requiring a minimum 75% majority.

Elders are accountable to God, to each other, and to the congregation. Lay-elders (not payed by the church) are elected for a three year renewable term. After two terms lay-elders are encouraged to take a one year sabbatical from the office of elder. Vocational-elders are elected to an open ended term.

According to the Bible Elders are responsible to... Lead, "(Hebrews 13:17 NIV) Model , (1 Peter 5:3 NIV) Equip ,"(Ephesians 4:11-12 NIV) Protect, (Acts 20:28 NIV) Teach, (1 Timothy 3:2 NIV) "...those whose work is preaching and teaching." (1 Timothy 5:17 NIV)
